Full Description

NC61NW 1 633 168.

Centred NC 633 168: 'Dail na Ceardaich': Depopulated Area. Some 1600m N of Dalnessie Lodge, and on the E bank of the Brora River, is a cleared area upon a series of low knolls. Within this area are the footings of 9 (possibly 11 or more) buildings varying in size from 5m by 3m to 14m by 3m. Most of these are concentrated towards the NE corner of the site. Some are divided into two compartments. The turf-covered walls are now no more that 0.3m maximum height. Among the NE group is the faint outline of a circular foundation some 6m in diameter. Two possible buildings may have existed towards the S extremity of the site, but these are too far gone to make anything out of them. The area is enclosed by a modern deer-fence.
Visited by OS (J L D) 30 April 1961.

This area of 18th/19th century depopulation is as described in the previous field report. The noted circular foundation is the remains of an associated enclosure. There are no signs of enclosure banks or walls. Visited by OS (J L D) 30 April 1961.
