Full Description

NC60NW 50 644 097.

Centred at NC 644 097 is a group of four hut circles (A-D). A-C are on a S-facing sloping shelf, and D is situated below the shelf. Huts A and C are similar in that there is an inner, possibly later, hut circle or enclosure within the hut. The outer circles measure internally 8.5m N-S by 7.5m and 11.0m NW-SE by 9.5m respectively. These outer walls are peat and heather-covered, contrasting with the more stony inner circles which measure 4.0m and 5.0m in respective internal diameters. The inner circles are set eccentrically within the outers and in each case have aligning entrances in the SE quarter. In hut C where the two walls abut in the NE a gap of 3.0m occurs. It does not appear as a constructed entrance, leaving mutilation as a possible cause.
Hut B is a simple hut circle thickly covered by peat and heather. It measures approximately 9.5m in internal diameter. The spread wall is about 0.3m high and of uncertain width. The simple entrance is in the SE. D is heather-covered and built into the slope. It measures 12.0m SE-NW by 11.0m within a wall spread to 2.5m and 0.2m high. The simple entrance is in the SE. About ten clearance heaps and an occasional lynchet are the only indications of contemporary cultivation.
