Full Description

NC63SE 17 6565 3478.

At NC 6565 3478, adjacent to a stream, is a horse-shoe shaped burnt mound, with its open end towards the stream to the SE. It measures 13m NE-SW by 11m transversely, and survives to 0.7m in height. Lining the hollow into the centre are three earthfast stones, 0.2m maximum height, which may be the remains of a trough or hearth, or possibly the retaining stones for the mound.
There is no evidence of a field system or hut circles in the vicinity. The nearest hut is 500.0m to the NE (See NC63NE 18); there are clearance heaps between the mound and the hut, but these occur within the fields of Coirenamfeuran deserted township (See NC63SE 2) and could therefore post-date the hut.
Surveyed at 1:10 000. Visited by OS (N K B) 1 April 1977.
