Full Description

Centred on NC 663 327, in a SW facing hillside, is a settlement of six hut circles (A-F) in association with a field system.
The huts are peat-covered and generally reduced, but appear to be of a similar type. Internal dimensions in four of them are between 7.0m and 9.5m diameter, and in the other two remaining (B and D) 13.0 by 11.5m and 11.0 by 8.0m. Entrances are in the SE quarter, on the longer axis when applicable, and in huts 'B' and 'C' are clubbed. These last two huts are set into the slope and are the best-preserved; the former has a wall spread 2.5m broad, and in the latter an actual wall width 1.3 - 1.4m increasing to 2.5m in the sides of the entrance is established. The walls in huts 'A' and 'D-F' are ill-defined.
The field system extends over six hectares or more and is distinguished by stone clearance heaps spaced on average 10.0 - 15.0m apart; there are occasional low lynchets and near to hut 'B' an unmistakeable stony bank. A cultivation plot, 30.0m by 15.0m is noted. Outlying particularly to the north, are sporadic mounds of further field clearance.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (J M) 10 May 1977.
