Full Description

NC63NW 21 6065 3726.

At NC 6065 3726, about 30 metres below hut A of NC 63 NW 20 is an irregular turf and heather-covered mound, 8.7m SE-NW by 6.5m. It is 0.9m high at NW end sloping gradually down to 0.2m at SE. The mound is artificial, yet is it noticeably larger than the clearance heaps in the vicinity. The likelihood is that it is a burnt mound; and its close proximity to hut circles and an old water course adds weight to this supposition. However a trial dig into it was inconclusive, showing a content, immediately beneath the topsoil, of medium-sized rotten stones, but no clear sign of burnt material was seen.
