Full Description
Old Shielings (NAT)
OS 6"map, (1963)
At NC 662 356 and NC 664 353 are two stone-walled enclosures, each containing run-rig, which are probably associated with the nearby township of Coirenamfeuran (NC63SE 2). In the northernmost enclosure are about twelve shielings, rectangular in plan, and about 4.0 by 3.0m average size. One of these shielings overlies the run-rig. There are no shielings within the south enclosure, but in each are two, much earlier, hut circles (See NC63NE 28, 31, 38).
Visited by OS (N K B) 18 April 1977.
Two enclosures are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet liv). Two enclosures, with seven unroofed shieling-huts lying within the enclosure to the N, are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1987).
