Full Description

Enclosure (NR) OS 6" map, (1961)

A prominent hut circle, set on a S facing slope, was discovered by the previous field investigator (Visited by OS {JLD} 7 May 1960). It is turf and heather-covered and measures about 12m in diameter within a wall 0.6m high, and 2.7m wide in the W where opposing inner and outer facing stones are evident. Inner facing stones can be seen intermittently around the whole periphery; outers predominately only in the W. The hut has a fine stone-flanked entrance in the S, 3.3m long and 1.6m wide. A door check stands 1.4m inside the entrance on the W side. This hut resembles Hut V at Kilphedir (See NC91NE 25 type site).
Some 80m W of the hut is an obscure feature possibly the remains of a structure or simply stone clearance. It is sub-rectangular or sub-oval. An irregular low, stony 'bank' delimits the feature; no set stones are evident in this 'bank'. A boulder-choked gap in the SE may indicate an entrance. The 'bank' continues for 3m past the entrance on E side. Around the hut is an associated field system of about 2ha, denoted by relatively stone free ground fringed by stone clearance heaps, 10-15m apart. Some of the heaps are unusually large, possibly added to when the ground was latterly cultivated as evidenced by rig and furrow.
Visited by OS (J B) 7 August 1978.
