Full Description

NC64NE 8 6636 4641.

(NC 6636 4641) Undescribed feature.
OS 6"map, (1962)

An enclosure, situated on level dampish ground at the foot of a south-facing hillside, measures 18.5m diameter within a grassy bank 0.4m high and is spread to 2.5m. A narrow break in the south arc, 0.6m.
wide, is the only evidence of an entrance. The interior is heather-covered matching the outside surrounds. No stone is evident in the construction. A feature of the bank is a ragged, central groove, 0.1m maximum depth, for the full circuit. Occupying the NW sector of
the enclosure and overlying the inside of the bank is a later turf footing.
It may be the remains of a turf-built sheepfold superseded by the dry-stone example 30m to the west, and consequently not more than 160 years old. (See also NC64NE 10 and NC74SW 6 and 8).
Revised at 1:10 000
Visited by OS (J M) 11 July 1978.
