Full Description

NC60NW 18 6006 0663.

NC 601 066. A cairn 24ft in diameter, 3ft high, with a depression 5ft across in the top.
Information contained in letters from T C Welsh to OS 20 August 1969
and 4 July 1971.

The alleged cairn at NC 6006 0663 is as described by Welsh. It is situated on a W-facing spur on the eastern margin of a small area of field clearance (NC60NW 14). The previous field investigator described it thus; "One of the largest has a hollowed-out top, not unlike a kiln" (OS {W D J}). It is considerably larger than the adjacent heaps, but heaps of a similar size occur 150m to the N. (NC60NW 13). It lacks any of the definitive cairn characteristics and its position is not particularly commanding. Therefore it must be considered to be a clearance heap and the depression is the result of digging.
Visited by OS (W D J) 28 June 1963 and 7 October 1980.
