Full Description
NC50SE 49 5794 0301.
At NC 5794 0301, on a W-facing slope is a sub-oval enclosure measuring 25.0m E-W by 22.0m overall. It remains as a levelled, turf-covered platform, raised to 0.4 and to 0.8m at the E and the W ends respectively, with a low, discontinuous, stony bank on the rim. The enclosure is probably a stock enclosure associated with a nearby depopulated settlement. There is a corn-drying kiln outside the NW arc.
Surveyed at 1:2500 and 1:10 000.
Visited by OS (J M) 4 August 1976.
A farmstead comprising an unroofed building and an unroofed structure, which may be the corn-drying kiln described above, and an enclosure are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet cii). They are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1992).
