Full Description

At NC 5524 0303 on W bank of the Grudie Burn is a horse-shoe shaped burnt mound, its open end facing the burn. It measures 15m E-W by 13m N-S overall, and survives to 1.2m high. The content of fire-reddened, friable stones and black earth containing charcoal is exposed in rabbit burrowing. At the east "open" end of the mound are several earthfast stones, which seem to have formed some type of internal structure, but details are not clear from visible remains.
To the north of the mound are several stone clearance heaps but their period is uncertain; they could be relatively modern. There is no trace of hut circles, commonly found in association with burnt mounds.
