Full Description
In area proposed for tree Felling Licence (FCC3661) and Woodland Grant Scheme (FCC3662). Site meeting on 22/11/01, trees directly affecting archaeological sites to be felled (5 trees in total). Sites generally in fair condition, though some erosion occuring due to proximity of path to all 3 sites.

Burnt mound "B" is SMR no. NC50SE0059.

NC50SE 62 5746 0226 and 5748 0229.
At NC 5746 0226 and NC 5748 0229, close to W bank of River Shin, are two burnt mounds (A and B respectively).
'A', crescent-shaped, measures 15.5m NE-SW by 11m and 0.8m high; erosion of turf cover reveals heat-stained and friable stone fragments.
Within open SE side, are several earthfast stones and others lying at random. A structure is suggested.
'B' measures 8.0m by 6.0m and 0.5m high, and has been mutilated by a path in the SE; erosion of the turf cover reveals heat-stained and friable stone fragments.
The SE side is depressed and just within, in the bottom, are two opposing earthfast stones 1.2m apart.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J M) 12 June 1981.
