Full Description
NH79NW 20 707 956
Centred at NH 706 954, on the SE slopes of Leathad Bad a' Cheull, is a settlement of six stone-walled huts ('A' - 'F') and an associated field system.
All the huts are oval, and with the exception of 'A' which is larger and better preserved, are obscured by peat The hut dimensions are between wall centres.
Hut 'A' measures c.13.5m N-S by c.11.5m with the wall spread to c.2.5m all round. Occasional outer facing stones are visible but insufficient for accurate overall measurement. The simple entrance is in the S.
'B', measures c.10.0m WNW-ESE by c. 8.0m with the wall spread to c.2.0m all round. The NE arc is destroyed The simple entrance is in the ESE.
'C' measures c.10.5m NW-SE by c.9.5m with the wall spread to c.2.0m all round. The simple entrance is in the SE.
'D' measures c.9.0m NW-SE by c.7.5m, but is too ill-defined for the wall thickness to be determined. The simple entrance is in the SE.
'E' is the same size as 'D' and also is too ill-defined for the wall thickness to be determined. The entrance is in the ESE.
'F', c.3.0m to the E of 'E' measures c.9.5m NW-SE by c.8.0m, but is too ill-defined for the wall thickness to be determined. The entrance is in the SE.
The field system is defined by clearance heaps and lynchets and best preserved in the area between huts 'B', 'C' and 'E' where a typical field measures about 18.0m square.
