Stell within former shieling: On the Kirkton side of the burn, but closer to the mill and associated features at NC 25388 23536 in Eadar a' Chalda, than any other good farmland, is a large shieling ground bounded and partially subdivided by dykes. Some clearance cairns and possible ruined hut foundations are scattered around. Towards the western side on a sloping terrace above the Allt a Chalda Mor a large nineteenth century stell. It is a well built structure 13.50m in internal diameter and parts of it still stand to approx 1.5m including the remains of its turf capping. The walling is battered both internally and externally and appears to be gradually collapsing outwards. The entrance on the south side has largely collapsed as have a number of sections of higher walling. <1>
