Full Description

Footings of two buildings, 8m by 4m and 10m by 4m, in bracken-clad pasture marked by sporadic heaps of clearance stone; bounding bank taking in rough ground. Abandoned in the 19th century.
Visited by OS (JM) 15 July 1980.

A rapid walkover survey of Loch Poll was carried out in 1998 by C.Dagg.

Site 9: Loinn Mheadhonach, depopulated settlement. On a SE facing slope of grass and bracken, dropping steeply from rocky outcrops to the burn and the loch shore, a large enclosed area containing three structures and a sheepfank spaced in a rough line running NE-SW along the highest part of the enclosed area. The structures are:
a) Building, tucked under a crag, of very rough rubble walling, oval rather than rectangular and aligned NW-SE , measuring internally 3.2m. by 1.9m.. The walls stand lm. high and incline inwards. The entrance is on the SW, one side of the entrance being formed by a large naturally placed boulder. There is a small annexe on the SE wall, also with an entrance to the SW. 18m. ESE of this structure is a small rubble structure measuring lm. by 1.3m.
b) Building, 30m. SSE of the first, aligned NE-SW and measuring internally 6.4m. by 2.4m. but reduced to rubble spread. NE of this building by 6m. are more small rubble structures.
c) Building, aligned N-S and measuring 7.2m. by 2.7m. reduced to spread rubble, 20m. north of the sheepfank.
d) Sheepfank, roughly rectangular but narrower and more curved in the NW, aligned NW-SE and measuring internally 6m. by 3m. with walls standing over lm high. <1>
