Full Description
NC70NW 38 7430 0536
At NC 7431 0536 on NW upper slopes of Cnoc na h-Airde and in a hut circle-associated field system (NC70NW 37) is a mound, possibly a cairn. It is symmetrical, flat-topped and peat-covered, slightly depressed in the centre, and measures 8.1m E-W by 75m and 0.5m high.
No cist or kerb is exposed. This mound differs from the numerous stone clearance heaps in the area only in respect of its size (the clearance is 3-5m in average diameter) and symmetry.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J M) 10 April 1981.
What may be a burial cairn is situated at the back of a broad heather- and grass-covered terrace on the NW flank of Cnoc na h-Airde within a scatter of small cairns (see NC 70NW 37.03). It measures 7.8m in diameter and 0.5m in height and has been dug into at the centre. There is no sign of a kerb or cist.
