Full Description

NC71SE 40 7835 1101.

NC 7835 1101 A stone walled hut circle was found during field investigation on an east facing slope adjacent to early modern cultivation. It measures about 12m in diameter within a wall spread to 2.5m broad. Some inner facing stones are visible. The entrance is in the SE arc but it is choked with stones from a ruined circular enclosure, which is constructed within the hut and overlaying the wall. The enclosure, probably a sheepfold, is 7.0m internal diameter with a wall spread to 1.0m. No entrance can be seen. There is no trace of a field system associated with the hut, but later cultivation may have obliterated it.
Surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (N K B) 4 April 1976.
