Full Description

Centred NC 787 153. A settlement of four simple, stone-walled hut-circles ('A'-'D'), overgrown with peat and heather, found during field investigation on the upper slopes of a SW-facing hillside.
'A', NC 7868
1538, on the levelled top of a low spur is 8.5m NNE-SSW by 7.5m internally and has no visible entrance. The walling is largely obscured but on the north are one or two inner facing slabs backed by a low spread of rubble. The south arc has been partially overlaid by a later hut set inside, and elsewhere the wall, where apparent is fragmentary and spread to 1.5m. The later hut is better-preserved, measuring 5m in diameter within a wall spread to 1.5m to 2m in which an appreciable amount of bare stone is visible. There is an entrance in the SSW.
'B', NC 7870 1538, levelled into a slight slope is reduced to a low platform 10m in diameter with occasional outer-facing stones of a wall showing in the south arc. A slight depression in the south may indicate an entrance.
'C'. NC 7877 1533, levelled into the top of a rise, is completely overgrown. It measures 10m NNW-SSE by 9m within a substantial wall spread to 3m. West of an entrance in the SSE the wall stands to more than 1m high internally. The interior has been disturbed by the dumping of stone against the wall in the SW, and the uneveness of the floor suggests overgrown debris.
'D', NC 7882 1528, ill-preserved, is scooped out of the summit of a rise. It is 7.5m in diameter within a wall which has almost disappeared on the north and elsewhere remains as a low peat-covered band of rubble spread to 2m. What may be part of the south side of an entrance survives in the west.
Contemporary agriculture is indicated by stone clearance heaps on the downslope SW of hut 'C'. About 30m NNE of hut 'D' is a winding stretch of old tumbled walling at least 40m long. It almost encloses a low, heather-cropped hillock, mainly free of stone, which appears to have been cultivated.
