Full Description

Centred NC 783 156. A settlement of four simple stone-walled hut circles within a small field system found during field investigation on a SW-facing hill slope. The huts are obscured by peat.
Hut 'A', NC 7830 1566, levelled into the top of a low rise, is 10.0m NNW-SSE by 8.0m within a substantial wall spread to 3.0m, except at the entrance in the SSE where the width is reduced.
'B', NC 7834 1560, survives as a low platform 9.0m NNE-SSW by 7.5m with slight traces of walling around the rim.
Hut 'C', NC 7836 1559, set into the side of a rise, is 11.0m NNE-SSW by 10.0m internally. The wall is substantial being 2.0m estimated thickness in the W, and elsewhere spread to 3.0m. The simple entrance is in the SSW; a break in the ESE is undoubtedly a later mutilation.
Hut 'D', NC 7840 1563, set into the top of a rise, is ill-defined, measuring 9.0m N-S by 8.0m within a low wall spread to 1.5m. There is an entrance gap in the S arc.
Associated cultivation is limited to one or two stone clearance heaps and some rickles of stone clearance, all in the immediate vicinity of the huts; on the level area between huts 'A' and 'B' there survives an arc of field wall which appears contemporary. No measurable cultivation plots can be seen.
Surveyed at 1:10 560.
Visited by OS (J M) 11 December 1975.
