(NC 8526 0605) Enclosure (NR)
OS 6" map, (1964)

Enclosure discovered during field investigation.
Surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (E G C) 13 July 1961.

Situated on an isolated knoll is a well preserved hut circle with what appears to be a smaller hut within it and a rectangular enclosure adjoining on the SE side.
The hut measures 10.8m internal diameter with a wall about 1.5m thick. Several of the inner facing stones and occasional outer facing survive. It appears to share a common entrance in the S with the inner "hut", which is 8.4m internal diameter and positioned eccentrically against the S wall. No outer face can be seen but the inner face is defined by several stones on edge.
The rectangular enclosure, 1.2m lower than the hut, with a floor sloping down to the SE, is 10.3m. NW-SE by 4.8m internally and of similar construction to the hut. The wall is 1.4m thick. There is an entrance on the SW side and a possible entrance on the NW side into the hut. Within the enclosure is a slab protruding 0.1m through the turf at 90 degrees to the NE wall, which resembles a stall.
All features in the complex are of considerable antiquity though not necessarily contemporary.
Revised at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (J B) 24 November 1975.

See assoc. docs. File for photos and negatives.
