Full Description
Centred on NC 784 386, in rising moorland open to the SW, is a settlement of four hut circles (A-D) in association with a field system. The latter, about four hectares area, is marked by mounds of stone clearance, spaced on average 10-20m apart, most numerous in the region of the huts; cultivation plots are not discernible. There are outlying sporadic heaps of further field clearance. Huts A-C are very similar in appearance, all having elevated stances on fairly level ground and having walls reduced to low peat-silted spreads 2-2.5m broad; internal diameters, in alphabetical order, are 10m by 9m, 9m by 7.5m and 9m diameter. Entrance in 'A' and 'B' are from SW and S respectively in each case on the line of the longer axis; hut 'C' has an entrance in the S. 'D' is different being a poorly-defined hut set slightly into the slope. Completely heather-covered, it is approximately 9m N-S by 8 over an indistinct wall; only possible indication of an entrance is a low depression in the N arc. A field clearance mound abuts on NW exterior.
Surveyed at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J M) 24 February 1977.
