Full Description

(NC 7827 3529 - one of six published) Enclosures (NR)
OS 6"map, (1962)

This is almost certainly a cairn, at correct plan position NC 7825 3530, and undoubtedly not an enclosure or similar structure. The siting, within a hut-circle associated field system, (NC73NE 1) is on a slight change of slope, and is a mound, 10.0m diameter by 0.7m high, of regular rounded form with clear cut periphery standing out distinctly from neightbouring mounds of stone clearance; a central area, about 4.5m diameter, is depressed and disturbed, in particular the NE segment which has been excavated down into and reveals a content of rubble stones, typical of a cairn. No structural details are evident - a heavy blanket of peat on the flanks would conceal any kerb feature.
Surveyed at 1:10,560.
Visited by OS (J M) 10 February 1977.
