Full Description
Centred on NC 722 573 are two peat covered burnt mounds 32m apart, situated alongside a burn. The first at NC 7225 5734 was discovered by Rudie (Elliot Rudie, 7 Mackenzie Cres., Bettyhill). It is irregular in plan measuring 12.0m by 10.0m by 1.2m high with an undulating summit. The second at NC 7227 5731 is crescentic, and measures 10.0m north-south by about 7.0m and up to 0.8m high. Unusually, the open side of the crescent faces away from the adjacent burn on the east side. An upright slab 0.5m long protrudes through the peat in the centre of the crescent. A content of friable stones was revealed in both mounds.
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J B) 12 December 1978.
