Full Description

NC75NW 7118 5978.

At NC 7118 5978, on the summit of a ridge overlooking the River Naver, is a near circular enclosure, probably a hut circle, discovered by Rudie (Elliot Rudie, 7 Mackenzie Cres, Bettyhill). It is about 8.5m in diameter internally. The wall, surviving clearly in the west half, but obscured by turf in the east arc, is hut like in construction, 0.3m high and 1.2m wide, with occasional facing stones visible, but its form is rather angular differing from the usual smoothly curving hut wall. A transverse slab in the south possibly indicates the entrance. Run-rig on the ridge has probably destroyed the remains of any field system if one existed, and this later cultivation may be responsible for the angularity of the enclosure.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (J B) 1 September 1977.
