Full Description

Beside a burn and on the edge of a field system (NC75NW 62) there is a heather covered burnt mound with ana abutting structure, discovered by Rudie (Elliot Rudie, 7 Mackenzie Cres, Bettyhill). The mound is about 4.5m across and 0.6m high. A trial dig revealed a content of friable stones. The adjoining structure lies on north side between mound and burn. Surviving are isolated set stones backed by a low band of stone and a stretch of roughly faced walling bounding part of north side of mound. Two of stones, standing up to 0.4m high, are in the style of portal stones, but it is uncertain whether they served this purpose as access through them is blocked. The nature of this structure is problematic but it would seem to be associated with the burnt mound.
Surveyed at 1:10000. Visited by OS (J B) 2 September 1977.
