Full Description
NC70NE 35 7513 0907 and 7510 0911.
At NC 7513 0907 and NC 7510 0911, on a gentle undulating south-facing slope in open moorland, are two hut circles (A and B respectively).
A, the better preserved of the two is 8.3m in diameter within a collapsed wall of bare stone, 0.4m high, in which intermittent inner and outer facing stones are exposed indicating a thickness of 1.6m. The entrance, of simple form, is in the ESE arc. Within the hut is an oval enclosure, 5.0m E-W by 4.5m N-S, with a scant wall, 0.3m high and spread to 1.2m broad. The entrance in the east arc leads into the hut entrance. This enclosure appears to be much later than the hut, and may be a fairly recent stock pen. A modern marker cairn has been erected on the wall.
Hut B is oval, 11.0m NW-SE by 8.5m transversely, Hut B is oval, 11.0m NW-SE by 8.5m transversely;, within a peat and heather-covered wall reduced to 0.3m high, and spread to 1.7m at the rear widening to 2.5m at the simple entrance in the SE arc. There is no evidence of cultivation associated with the hut circles.
Surveyed at 1:10 000.
Visited by OS (N K B) 23 June 1981.
