Full Description

NC70NW 32 7286 0847 and 7292 0848

At NC 7292 0848 and NC 7286 0847, on an E-facing hill-slope, are two hut circles (A and B respectively). Associated land-use is denoted by a number of stone clearance heaps in the vicinity. The huts are peat and heather covered and the walls collapsed; entrances are in the SE quarter, the line of the main axis.
'A' measures 7 by 5.5m within a wall spread from 2.5-3m and up to 0.3m high.
'B' measures 11 by 10m inside a wall 0.6m high on average and spread from a main width of 3.5m expanding to 4.5m in the sides of the entrance.
Surveyed at 1:10 000. Visited by OS (J M) 8 April 1981.

Two hut-circles are situated on a peat-covered E-facing slope to the W of Craggiemore. The westernmost (ROG95 52, NC 7286 0847, OS'B') measures 10.1m from NNW to SSE by 9.3m transversely within a stony bank spread to 2.2m in thickness and 0.5m in height. The terminals of the bank have been expanded to form an entrance-passage 4m in length, opening out on the SSE into the slight remains of what may have been a baffle. The second hut-circle (ROG95 58, NC 7292 0848, OS'A') is much smaller, measuring 6.4m from ESE to WNW by 5.2m transversely within a bank spread to 2m in thickness and 0.4m in height. The bank terminals have been thickened at the entrance, which is on the ESE.
The ground around the hut-circles is markedly smooth and there are at least three small cairns, measuring up to 3m in diameter and 0.3m in height, to N and ENE of W hut-circle (ROG95 52). To the S of this hut-circle the edge of the boggy ground is marked by a stony bank, which runs E-W for over 50m.
