Full Description

NC70SW 50 7436 0180.

An old corn-drying kiln set in a slope on the W side of an unnamed stream. Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (JM) 29 April 1981.

A farmstead and a kiln, are situated beside an unnamed burn.
The farmstead (NC 7435 0175) is situated on a terrace on the E side of the burn and comprises two buildings set at right angles to each other along the SSW and ESE sides of an enclosure. The larger building (ROG95 137) lies along the SSW side of the enclosure and measures 12m by 2.7m internally, with a bedneuk opening out of the ENE side and possibly opposed entrances. The second building (ROG95 136) is much smaller, measuring 6.9m by 2.3m internally.
The kiln (ROG95 449, NC 7436 0180) is situated at the base of a rock outcrop on the W bank of the burn. Its bowl, which measures 1.8m in diameter within a faced-rubble bank 0.95m in thickness, is 1.5m in depth and the flue runs into a barn on the ESE which measures 3.6m by 2.1m internally. A stony bank encloses the small terrace to the NNE of the kiln.
