Full Description
NH69NE 9 6994 9914.
At NH 6994 9914 is a heather-covered mound some 8.0m by 7.0m across and 0.8m high. There is a central depression, about 2.5m in diameter, to ground level which narrowly breaks through the SW side. This mound has a similarity in size and shape to many burnt mounds. However, peripheral exploration of the content shows one or two water-worn, medium-sized stones and no burnt material; also the position on a dry slope with the nearest stream or natural drainage some 40m W is unusual for a burnt mound. It may be a quarried stone clearance heap, of which there are a number in the vicinity, mainly in association with hut circles.
Visited by OS (J M) 28 August 1980.
