Full Description
NC91SW 31 9396 1256.
A wag-type homestead was found during field investigation in a hollow immediately behind an old river terrace, part of which has been utilised as the east side of the homestead. The situation is unusal in that it would attract drainage off the hillside to W. The homestead is slightly oblong in plan, measuring 12m NNW-SSE by 4m internally, expanding at SW corner into a semi-circular chamber 3m in internal diameter. An entrance about 1m wide, now obscured by debris, occurs at SE corner, with a flanking wall on E side of the approach, but later quarrying has obscured the details. The overgrown wall of the homestead stands to a maximum of 2m and is about 2m thick. The interior is reasonably free of debris and is probably at original floor level. Partly abutting on the external SW wall are scant remains of subsidiary enclosures.
Surveyed at 1:10,560. Visited by OS (J M) 10 March 1976.
