EHG6350 - Walkover survey - proposed woodland scheme, Glencanisp, Lochinver

Technique(s)

Organisation

Historic Assynt

Date

Oct 2015

Description

An archaeological desktop and walkover survey were undertaken by Historic Assynt in 2015 in an area of proposed woodland expansion in Glencanisp, Lochinver, Sutherland. The walkover was conducted on 22 - 23 October 2015 at a time when bracken and other ground cover was still high. Consequently, although every effort was made to note every site, some smaller or poorly preserved features may have been missed. Work revealed a total of sixteen sites within or bordering the proposed woodland area. One of those had been recorded previously together with partial information about two of the others. The details of the proposed planting scheme were not known to the surveyors at the time of the survey and so the recommendations appended to each site assumed that planting was intended, even though the terrain in some places suggested that trees would be unlikely to be planted there. The extent of the recommended exclusion zones beyond the site feature or area varied according to the site and was indicated for each site where this recommendation was made. <1>
